The City and County of Honolulu’s Department of Environmental Services announced on April 2 that it will begin accepting storm-damaged drywall at specific disposal facilities starting Friday, April 3.

This initiative aims to help residents affected by the recent Kona low storms dispose of damaged materials safely and efficiently as recovery efforts continue in the community.

Residents can drop off only storm-damaged drywall, cut into pieces no larger than three feet by three feet, at the Lāʻie Convenience Center (56-020 Kamehameha Highway), Wahiawā Convenience Center (71-129 Wilikina Drive), and Kawailoa Transfer Station (61-180 Kawailoa Road). The department said all collected drywall will be separated for proper disposal. On-site attendants will be available to guide residents to the correct drop-off locations.

“ENV understands the challenges many families are facing in the aftermath of the storms and remains committed to providing resources and services to help the community get back to normal as quickly as possible,” said officials from ENV. The department reminded residents that only storm-damaged drywall meeting size requirements would be accepted during this temporary measure.

For more information about disposal options and facility locations, residents are encouraged to visit the Department of Environmental Services website or follow their social media channels.
