Honolulu County ranked second in state for resident earnings in 2017

Honolulu County ranked second among counties in Hawaii by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau in August.

The median income of Honolulu County residents was an inflation-adjusted $34,244 per year. Honolulu County had 311,451 households in 2017, with a population of 990,060.

The county with the highest median resident income in the state was Kalawao County. Kalawao County's median income was $44,375 per year after adjusting for inflation – $10,131 more than Honolulu County. It had 53 households in 2017 and a population of 86.

Hawaii County had the lowest annual resident income among counties in Hawaii, with a median income of only $27,016 per year. That was $7,228 less than the median income in Honolulu County at the time. Hawaii County had 67,054 households in 2017 and a population of 196,325.
