Now more than ever, filling open positions at a company or nonprofit can be challenging. It's truly a job seekers' market right now. So what can you do to attract the right kind of person to apply for an opening at your company? Here are some tips from ALTRES Staffing manager Emy Yamauchi-Wong:
1.Write a great job discription. If you don’t have a written job description, create one with as much detail as possible. If you don’t have a clear idea of what you need or are hiring for, it makes it difficult to recruit.
2.Offer meaningful benifits. A standard list of benefits like “paid vacation, holidays and 401(k) plans” isn't going to cut it anymore, unless you're offering something way above the standard, such as paid medical for families or a high employer match to a retirement plan. Today, more applicants are looking for are remote or work from home options or full on-the-job training provided. Employers need to be prepared to “sell” a candidate on working for them vs another company.
3.competitive pay matters. While not EVERYONE is motivated by money alone, you still need to be competitive and in the right salary range for the position. And keep in mind that it’s illegal to ask applicants what their current salaries are.
