FOIA Request to University of Hawaii at Manoa Regarding Chinese National Students on June 4, 2025.
As part of our commitment to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we have submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the University of Hawaii at Manoa. This request seeks information concerning Chinese National students currently enrolled at the university.
Our inquiry specifically requests documents or lists that detail the number and departmental distribution of Chinese National students. Additionally, we are seeking information about scholarships awarded to these students, including the amount and source of each scholarship. We are particularly interested in identifying any scholarships affiliated with the Chinese Scholarship Council.
Furthermore, we have requested access to any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students, including those who are Chinese Nationals, to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.
This request is made on behalf of Honolulu Reporter and The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy. As media professionals dedicated to holding public institutions accountable and ensuring transparency, we believe this information is vital for public knowledge. We have also requested a fee waiver due to our role in disseminating important information to the public.
