FOIA Request to University of Hawaii-West Oahu regarding recent course syllabi on August 6, 2025.

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was submitted by the Honolulu Reporter to the University of Hawaii-West Oahu on August 6, 2025. The request seeks access to a comprehensive list of course syllabi for all undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the Spring 2025 academic semester. This includes syllabi from all departments, schools, and colleges within the university, regardless of whether the courses were conducted in-person, online, or through hybrid formats.

The request specifically asks for associated metadata such as course titles and numbers, instructor names, department or academic unit affiliations, and the format in which each course was delivered. The requester emphasized that access to these public records is crucial for media professionals to hold public institutions accountable and ensure transparency.

The Honolulu Reporter also requested a fee waiver based on their role as a media organization committed to disseminating information to the public. They highlighted their affiliation with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization that aids media companies and advocacy groups in investigating governmental actions using FOIA and Sunshine Laws.

We look forward to receiving this information in an electronic format as it will greatly aid in our reporting efforts. As always, we remain open for any questions or clarifications regarding this request.
